I just wanted to take a minute to
update you on the Annual Meeting held February 21, 2016.
First, thanks to everyone that came: Gina, Ross, Gail, Lorena, Susan and
Karen.
·
There was no change in the officers but the President’s
position is still vacant.
It would be good if someone took some interest in filling that position.
·
The annual financial statements were reviewed with few
questions.
We currently have roughly $5000 on hand and we have an outstanding bill
to repair the generator.
·
Fundraising Ideas: We are applying for a bingo
license again and Lorena things she will organize something toward the
end of March.
She will be in touch for a parcel, if you want to help, give her a
call.
We will also be hosting a Bluegrass Breakfast again this year,
the dates for the festival are August 19-21.
·
Chase The Ace: The 10-halls on Isle Madame met and are
discussing organizing an island-wide chase the ace game.
We would have to commit to handling ticket sales and the kitchen in
rotation with the other halls, initially once every ten weeks.
I am going to need 5-captains that would agree to sell tickets weekly to
5-people (tickets are 3/$5).
Please let me know if you are interested, it is a great opportunity to
fundraise and work with the other halls and
we are going to need some volunteers to make it work.
·
Generator Repair: the generator broke during the last
power outage and the
repairman is waiting for a part, hopefully it will be fixed soon.
·
Donation from Telile: this is the last year we are going
to receive a portion of the “Hall Game” from our community channel.
I wrote a letter of concern and will let you know if I hear anything.
If anyone else wants to express concern, their email is
telile@telile.tv
·
Grant Application: we are going to work on a grant
application to have the roof replaced, bathrooms updated, water softener
repaired,
fire escape, steps and ramp repaired and the outbuildings checked over
and assessed for repairs (and possibly more).
We will put the job out for tender and since Appleseed Energy will apply
to complete the job, Brian and I will be in conflict
so someone else will be overseeing the process. If we manage to get the
money it will take care of the hall for quite a few years
and we will only have to fundraise for annual expenses (heat, insurance,
etc).
·
Volunteer of the Year: Susan McGrath was nominated this
year.
·
I neglected to mention last night that Billy and Sheila
donated $200 to the hall in memory of her mother, Evelyn.
They mentioned that the hall could be considered for a donation in
memory of a loved one along with other charities.
If anyone can help with bingo, the
breakfast and/or Chase the Ace or you would like to sit on the executive
please let me know.
The hall belongs to everyone and we have to work together to keep our
community strong.

mailing list, let me know at

Life’s journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved body,
but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out, shouting ” Holy Shit “…..What a ride!!
